Poetry, horses, and heart.
A cowgirl's voice preserving the spirit of the West.
CJ & her first horse, Arkansas 1990s
Latigo Lingo is a page that started for Western poetry written by CJ Elumbaugh. She wanted a creative outlet to share her passion for the cowgirl lifestyle. CJ grew up on a small horse farm in Locust Grove, Arkansas with her parents and two sisters. Her father, Andy Robey, started his horseshoeing career when he was only 17 years old, so he instilled that same hard work ethic in all three of the girls at a very early age. CJ credits every success in her life to the lifestyle she had growing up rodeoing, horseshowing, and breaking horses. Growing up, she juggled cheerleading and a very busy rodeo schedule. Her mother, Jennifer, always made sure she had pressed jeans, some turquoise jewelry, and everything she needed for the rodeo trail when she picked her up from cheer practice.
Back to ranching life
College and life eventually pulled her away from the rodeo trail, though. After meeting the love of her life, Rusty, getting married, and starting a career and a family, CJ lost the desire to compete horseback. No matter how busy life became, she never felt whole unless he had a good, broke horse in the pasture. In 2015, with the help of CJ's grandfather, Ed, she and Rusty started their first ever cattle herd. After the first unsuccessful cow working (if you know, you know) Rusty decided the cattle business was not for him, but he would support CJ either way. Now, 2 farms and a lot more cows later, some of the original herd is still out there grazing on their now expanded operation. CJ soon realized the ranching lifestyle brought her back to her roots and gave her the same sense of accomplishment she felt all those years in the rodeo arena. She was now getting to raise her own boys, Ryder and Rixon the same way she grew up.

After a major career change during the pandemic, CJ had time to slow down and reflect on her true passion. That was sharing this Western way of life with other people. She was able to do that with her poetry. In 2025, she decided to take that a step further, and start the Latigo Lingo Cowgirl Clinics- an all inclusive, cowgirl clinic retreat to teach other women what it truly means to be a cowgirl.
Some good stuff is coming soon.
"She wears all the hats with grace and even accents them with a feather.
She's strong, but delicate like lace mixed with leather.
There's no desire in her heart for designer bags or things that shine.
Give her a good dog, Granddaddy's old buckle, and a good glass of wine."
